    With climate change, flash floods are likely to become more frequent?

    For this reason, where it is not possible to give the river more space, embankments are necessary structures for protection against flooding.

    If constructed in a varied manner, even embankments can serve as habitats for various species of flora and fauna, such as the water snake species found in the area (Natrix helvetica, see image).
